What is COPYTRACK?

Copytrack is a tool that can be used to identify reproductions of photographs on the web, and thus any unauthorised reproductions.

Copyright holders can therefore use this tool to monitor their creations.

When COPYTRACK identifies a reproduction on an Internet site, it will contact its publisher and ask the latter to :

  • justify its right to reproduce the identified photo (by sending a signed licence, for example); or
  • withdraw the photo and pay compensation (assessed by COPYTRACK); or
  • pay the costs relating to a licence agreement for a specified period.

However, although this is a powerful tool, it cannot yet assess either the level of originality of the photograph in question or the intensity of its use.

As a result, COPYTRACK claims can sometimes be contested/contestable, or even unfounded.

Therefore, do not hesitate to contact us if you receive a letter from COPYTRACK so that we can help you assess the relevance of its requests.
