Paris, 19 June 2024 - F. Initiatives, a leader in public innovation financing consultancy for over twenty years, and Regimbeau, an Industrial Property (IP) law firm for over 90 years, are joining forces to provide a joint offering unlike any other on the market. The aim? To improve the protection and financial value of innovations by linking IP and R&D.
With a 360° approach and unique support, this collaboration aims to bridge the gap so often observed between the strategies developed by companies in terms of intellectual property, and those put in place in terms of innovation and Research & Development.
More specifically, this cross-functional support is provided by means of an Intellectual Property Strategy Diagnostic. Subsidised up to 80% by BPI France, this involves carrying out an inventory of intangible assets, a study of the competitive environment and the definition of a protection plan through industrial property rights (patents, trademarks, designs and models, know-how, etc.). It is also within this framework that IP Box opportunities can be identified, enabling eligible companies to benefit from public funding in the form of tax reductions. Conversely, this diagnostic also aims to facilitate the detection of potential IP registrations to be carried out as part of R&D consultancy assignments.
By incorporating this “IP Box option” right from the start of the diagnostic process, Regimbeau and F. Initiatives are combining their skills to help protect companies' innovations and enhance their financial value.
« This partnership is perfectly in line with F. Initiatives's vision and ambition to continue supporting innovation and research within companies. For more than 20 years, we have been striving to do just that for our clients, » declares Michel Moulinet, Head of Department at F. Initiatives.
What is the IP Box ?
Implemented as part of the 2019 Finance Act, the IP Box encourages companies to enhance the value of their IP assets through taxation, by providing them with the opportunity to benefit from a preferential rate of corporation tax for income derived from IP and linked to R&D work undertaken on French territory. Eligible companies benefit from a reduced rate of tax, from 25% to 10%.
« The creation of this common and unique offering enables us to combine our respective expertise in intellectual property and innovation financing with the aim of securing and maximizing income for our clients, » adds Andrea Obispo, IP Box Team Manager.
« Given the complementary nature of the services provided by F. Initiatives and those of Regimbeau, it became abundantly clear to us that establishing such a partnership would create value for our clients. We are proud to be able to offer a service that is unprecedented in the market, and to continue, more than ever, to encourage companies to have a 360° vision of their innovation strategy, » explains Marc Levieils,Managing Partner at Regimbeau

Frédérique Durieux, Partner, French & European Patent Attorney, Representative before the UPC
Anne-Laure Deleuze, Ph.D, Senior Associate, French & European Patent Attorney, Representative before the UPC
All European patent attorneys of Regimbeau are now registered to act before the Unified Patent Court, forming a team of almost 40 UPC Representatives covering all technical fields.
Regimbeau’s patent attorneys have built up a strong litigation practice, leveraging the technical and legal expertise of the teams working on complex cases. This dual expertise is recognized and rewarded by the best national and international industrial property rankings.
In 2023, Regimbeau has established an alliance with Gide Loyrette Nouel, creating one of the most powerful European taskforce dedicated to your patent litigation, particularly before the central division of the UPC as well as before the various local or regional divisions thereof.
Jean-Yves Branger and Jean-Nicolas Héraud will be attending SPACE 2023, the international exhibition for animal farming in Rennes. SPACE 2023 will take place from Tuesday 12 to Thursday 14 September at the Parc Expo in Rennes.
Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) magazine has published the results of its annual survey identifying the best IP practitioners worldwide. Regimbeau is once again ranked among the best firms in France in the "Patent Prosecution" and "Trade Mark Prosecution" categories.
With the increasing complexity of national proceedings and the entry into force of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) , Gide Loyrette Nouel and Regimbeau have decided to join forces and create one of the largest European partnership for patent litigation between Lawyers and Patent Attorneys: Gide x Regimbeau - Patent Litigation.
The two leading French firms, which have been working together for 30 years and share a wealth of experience in patent litigation, have thus created one of the strongest and most expert patent litigation team in Europe.
Gide has one of the largest team of patent lawyers in France, recognised for their expertise and skills, particularly in multi-jurisdictional litigation.
Regimbeau relies on highly specialised scientific experts in the most complex technical fields and on a recognised practice of patent litigation in France and internationally.
The creation of the UPC, which will come into effect on 1st June 2023, marks a decisive step in the construction of a harmonised intellectual property system in Europe. In this context, France will be home to both the headquarters of the central division of the UPC's Court of First Instance and its French local division in Paris. This new jurisdiction will require a perfect mastery of all the components of French and pan-European patent litigation, within very short deadlines.
Thanks to their Parisian anchorage, at the heart of the UPC, the teams of the Gide x Regimbeau - Patent Litigation alliance will be able to coordinate all their offices and networks in France, Europe and internationally, wherever disputes may arise.
The scope of this alliance is patent and know-how litigation, within the jurisdiction of a national court or the UPC.
This multidisciplinary taskforce of some sixty professionals deals with all technical fields (from life sciences to new digital technologies, chemistry to mechanics and telecoms) and defends its clients in matters relating to patents, supplementary protection certificates and trade secrets before all French courts and, as of now, before the UPC.
“Thanks to this strategic alliance with Regimbeau, we have a major impact on the market and a global solution designed to respond to significant developments in the sector so as to provide our clients with an even more sophisticated and efficient quality of service in the resolution of patent disputes”, says Frédéric Nouel, Senior Partner - Gide Loyrette Nouel.
“While all eyes are on the entry into force of the UPC, we are particularly confident in our ability to respond together to the new challenges of this jurisdiction. Our in-depth knowledge of the French legal system and of the new UPC procedures gives us a significant competitive advantage in supporting our clients through this change”, says Anne Boutaric, Partner - Regimbeau.
On May 31, 2023, Masahiro Tahara, the head of Japan Desk, will deliver a seminar regarding “cost-efficient strategies for obtaining European patents” at Osaka Institute of Technology. The registration is open until May 30, 2023. More details can be found by following the link below.
Stéphanie Massin Célaire and Nicolas Bouquin will be attending the BIO International Convention, the world's leading pharmaceutical and biotech industry event, which will be held in Boston from Monday, June 5 to Thursday, June 8, 2023.

About Regimbeau:
Regimbeau, a French & European IP law firm, has been assisting companies and private and public project developers to protect, enhance and defend their innovations (patents, trademarks, designs) for more than 90 years. Sixteen partners head a team of more than 200 people whose skills are put into practice in every strategic aspect of Intellectual Property - business intelligence and information search, license agreements, IP portfolio audits, partnership negotiations, acquisition of industrial property rights, litigation. Thanks to its wide-ranging expertise, Regimbeau (present in Paris, Munich, Lyon, Rennes, Grenoble, Montpellier and Toulouse) can meet its clients' needs for international strategic consulting while preserving personalized relations of the highest quality.
Each year, in France, companies with more than 50 employees are required to calculate and publish their professional gender equality index.
The Professional Women-Men Equality Index is a tool made available to companies by the French Ministry in charge of Labour, intended to help them in the approach towards achieving professional equality between women and men.
This year, Regimbeau obtained a score of 80/100. This score encourages us to continue our work by defining a progression plan in favor of professional equality between women and men. Parity is our priority.
The Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) will come into effect on June 1, 2023. Since March 1, 2023, the "Sunrise Period" already allows to act on European patents and European patent applications, especially to derogate from the exclusive competence of the UPC by filing an "opt-out".
New system, new reflexes!
To this end, Regimbeau's IP Intelligence Department can help you to:
Monitor your competitors
How will your competitors make use of the Sunrise Period? How will they orient their portfolio? Thanks to an active monitoring, you can detect their strategy.
Monitor patents by technical field
Depending on the technical fields, will we see different ways of using this new system?
Monitor specific patents
You have detected one or more titles that especially interest you. Monitor a potential opt-out filing during the Sunrise Period or during the transitional period.
Monitor your patent portfolio
Make sure that third parties do not file an opt-out on your own patents and react quickly if you identify an opt-out filed without your consent.
The IP Intelligence Department, made up of a multidisciplinary team of dedicated engineers, remains at your disposal to alert you regarding new data put online.
A tailor-made monitoring will be proposed to you to maintain your competitive advantage and anticipate the future.
