Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court: Regimbeau announces the second edition of its book dedicated to the landmark European initiative

Paris, 19 July 2023 – Regimbeau, a French and European intellectual property firm, announces the release of the second edition of its book providing economic stakeholders with an insight into the strategic opportunities offered by the European patent with unitary effect and the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

The patent system in Europe is undergoing profound changes following the entry into force on June 1, 2023 of the agreements establishing the European patent with unitary effect and the UPC. Therefore, a select group of Regimbeau’s European Patent Attorneys have examined the diverse legal framework of the future unitary patents and the UPC, of which the Central Division will be located in Paris. This second edition takes into account all the recent developments of the initiative since the ratification of the provisional application protocol (PAP) in January 2022.

“The implementation of the Unified Patent Court will radically reshape patent filing and litigation strategy in Europe. This is the most significant change in the intellectual property sector in decades. Companies will be able to protect their inventions in the main EU countries through a centralized procedure while realizing substantial savings,” explains Stéphanie Massin Celaire, a partner at Regimbeau.

The book is entitled Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court: Europe Adopts New Tools to Promote Innovation and explores the following key topics:

  • Procedure before the Unified Patent Court (UPC)
  • Conditions of validity and grounds for invalidity before the UPC
  • Patent protection and acts of infringement
  • Languages of the Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court
  • Evidence
  • Supplementary protection certificates
  • Mediation and arbitration
  • Representation before the UPC
  • General rules of procedure
  • Impact on license agreements
  • Jurisdiction of the UPC and of the national courts and the applicable law
  • The Unitary Patent

After releasing a French edition in March 2023, Regimbeau now announces the release of its English edition. This edition is now available in digital and physical format.
